Outbreak Escape

A Serious Game Created in Articulate Storyline

This is a serious game I created in Articulate Storyline. A serious game is meant to be both entertaining and educational. It is based on a constructionist approach and allows the user to explore and compare diseases with similar symptoms. The user plays as a doctor and can order more tests for patients and examine the results in order to attempt diagnoses.

The Problem
The Solution
I had played an interactive game before, specifically Facility 47.
When thinking about how the game was working, I realized I could probably build most of the functionality within Articulate Storyline. I decided to try and build a game within Storyline and make it a serious game to both entertain and educate.
  • Target Audience: Medical school students with some knowledge of diseases and testing
Outbreak Escape is a game where the learner plays a doctor that must diagnose patients and determine the disease responsible for a pandemic in order to escape the quarantine lockdown of a hospital. The learner is faced with 3 patients with similar symptoms. They must assess the patients, order more tests, examine the results, and make their final diagnoses to determine the diseases of the patients and the cause of the pandemic. A constructionist approach allows the learner to explore the environment, analyze information, and even access web-based searches for more research.
